About Me

Mumba Dodwell is currently a London-based director, actor and facilitator. Her work centres around changing perceptions on who we see and hear from in theatre and bringing stories to light that are traditionally untold.

She trained as an actor at Arts University Bournemouth and began her directing journey on the Intro to Directing course at the Young Vic Theatre. In 2019, she became the National Youth Theatre Bryan Forbes Assistant Director as part of a nine month training scheme for emerging directors. In her position there she was the first recipient to direct a professional run of a Rep Production, Great Expectations (Southwark Playhouse), for which she received several Offie Nominations one being for Best Directing. Mumba is a part of the National Theatre Directing Course Cohort 2023.

She was one of the co-founders of The Diversity School Initiative, which was set up to address under-representation, inclusivity and diversity in UK drama schools as well holding them accountable. This was done through advocating for and representing the changes that students want to see.

Outside of theatre she is exploring her green fingers, likes walking and is a little avid about Sims.
